Mr. Alex Palomo is the former Director of Protocol for the U.S. Naval Forces Europe/ Africa in Naples, Italy.

Mr. Palomo was born in McAllen, Texas, and works as an International Financial Agreements Analyst for the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force – Africa (SETAF-AF) in Vicenza, Italy.  He retired from the U.S. Army after serving 24 years.

Upon retirement, Mr. Palomo became the S1/Adjutant for the 22nd Area Support Group and later the Chief of Military Personnel Services Division for the U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza followed by his assignment as the Director of Protocol for the U.S. Army Africa/Southern European Task Force (USARAF) in Vicenza, Italy (Army Service Component Command).

Some of his overseas assignments while serving in the U.S. Army included the following:  Intelligence Analyst and Operations Coordinator at the Defense Attaché Office, American Embassy, Port-au-Prince, Haiti;  Administrative Officer, Defense Attaché Office, American Embassy, Paris, France; Administrative Officer, Office of Defense Cooperation, American Embassy, Rome, Italy, and as the Administrative Section Chief, SETAF G1.  Mr. Palomo culminated his military career as the G1 (Personnel) Sergeant Major for the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force (Airborne).

Mr. Palomo attended the following military and civilian schools:  Attaché Staff Operations Course at the Defense Intelligence College, Bolling AFB; French Language Training at Washington D.C.;  Haitian Creole Language Training in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is a graduate of the Protocol School of Washington. He obtained his Master of Business Administration (International Program) diploma from the Centro Universitario di Organizzazione Aziendale (Italian Business School) in Vicenza, Italy. 

As a Department of the Army civilian, Mr. Palomo was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service (3), the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award, the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, the U.S. Army Europe Commanding General’s Annual Incentive Award for Outstanding Contribution (Military Human Resource Program).  He was nominated for the William H. Kushnick Award (Human Resources). 

He was awarded the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award and was nominated by the Commander, Naval Forces Europe & Africa, Admiral James Foggo, for the 2020 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (Sammie Awards).

His military awards and decorations included the Legion of Merit; Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster); Joint Service Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; the Kosovo Campaign Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon (7th award).

He is married to Cristina and they have a daughter (Emily) a recent graduate of the University of Aalborg, Denmark and a son (Gianpaolo) attending H-Farm International School, Vicenza.
